The First Annual Moana Challenge was held on Saturday, September 19, 2009. It was a gathering of friends who competed in a multi-sport ocean and beach event. The challenge began with a 600 yd ocean swim, transitioned to a 2.5 mi soft-sand run and finished with a 1.5 mi ocean paddle.

The competition for Mea Lanakila (champion or victor in Hawaiian) was very close as the top 3 competitors finished within seconds of one another. But even more important than crowning a first Mea Lanakila was the idea that everyone who competed had a great time, enjoyed the day, and got to test themselves in the ocean and on the beach.
Thanks to all for coming out, competing, and making it an experience to remember. A special thank you goes out to my wife Kathy, and our awesome volunteers, without which we could not have had such a successful event.
Aloha and Mahalo
